Outing to Brighton, 125 x 165, oil on canvas by Frank Creber

Anyone who knows Brighton beach will realise that a few trees have been added and that the architecture has not been rendered accurately. This painting has several sources; memories of going to Brighton with various community groups from the East end of London, visits here to meet up with my son Nick Creber while he was at Art College here and the Film ‘Mr Hulot’s Holiday’ – in 1953 the wonderful Jaques Tati created a charming and very funny seaside postcard of a film.
